For the Love of…Football

2016 has seen me return (again) to play amateur football. Granted, I have had more comebacks than Rocky Balboa but this time, it’s different.

Like many Europeans, from the day I could walk football was of paramount importance. From standing on the terraces at Watford FC’s Vicarage Road, to school games on ice-cold Saturday mornings to my mum ferrying me to Sunday League kids football across Hertfordshire and Middlesex.

NYC: Soup for the Soul

As much as our New York trips are fairly indulgent, for some time I wanted to try some volunteering. Mental health is a very personal passion of mine and the link with the most basic provisions in life and homelessness is fairly strong.

I heard or read some time ago from an innocuous quote based on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs that humans only really need Shelter, Sustenance (food & water) and Love (or Sex, depending on how primal you believe we are).

Everything else above this is a bonus and are just “things” we covet that provide no long-term emotional benefit.

I thankfully get to go home every night to a warm, welcoming home with food and an extended family that would have us there with them no matter what.

Eat New York: Top Tips

After notching up three trips to New York in as many years I have been lucky enough to have never had a bad meal (except just one sorry jet-lagged influenced occasion at a Sheraton Hotel in-house restaurant).

My wife Carolina is my de-facto tour planner, her day job is spent organising and executing events so she qualifies for this job and more some.
